Objectives
The purpose of the workshop is to convene Chemical Engineering Faculty from various universities to a workshop on chemical safety and security. The overall goal of the workshop is to promote chemical security in academia and small to medium industry in Somalia. After the workshop, participants will have an understanding of chemical security and nonproliferation issues, and how they affect the chemical activities in academia, government, and industry in the region.
Course Description
The 3-day workshop will include such topics as identifying dual-use/weaponizable chemicals, international chemical security and nonproliferation regimes, Potential Threats to Chemicals of Concern, Why worry about chemical safety? Threats to chemical security, Safety and security of chemical transportation, Personal Protective Equipment, Safe Work Practices, Physical Security, Chemical Risks Assessment, Security Risk Characterization, Chemical Security Culture. The workshop will include discussions on the best practices for Both Chemical Safety and Security and exercises to determine gaps in current chemical security policy, It is hoped that this workshop will lead to new ideas for Chemical Engineering education to make chemical Safety and Security progress in the country.

The trainer –Mohamed Kasim
Mr. Kasim, a holder of B.Sc. and high diploma. (Industrial chemistry) from the international university of Africa (IUA) Khartoum , Sudan. He is a senior Chemistry lecturer at Somali National University. Trainer, a Former Alumni Member from Chemical security Program (CSP) activities, Member of governing council of Somali Chemical Society.
